This bar chart illustrates the number of Quasi-Resonant (QR) atmospheric conditions per four-year interval from 1980-1983 through 2008-2011, based on Petoukhov et al.’s 2013 study. The data shows relatively stable low frequencies until 2004-2007, followed by a marked increase, culminating in five events during 2008-2011-the highest in the study period. These QR events are associated with persistent weather extremes in the Northern Hemisphere, driven by amplified Rossby waves.
