Merida’s Costume Evolution in Brave - Before and After Design Comparison #3812386 (License: Personal Use)

The “before” image shows Merida in her signature dark teal archer’s dress, complete with a quiver of arrows and a confident stance-emphasizing her independence and warrior spirit. The “after” version presents a more regal interpretation: a shimmering teal gown with intricate gold Celtic knotwork, a decorative belt, and voluminous curls, reflecting her royal heritage and maturity. Both designs retain her vibrant red hair and expressive blue eyes, anchoring her identity across iterations.

This side-by-side comparison is commonly used in animation design articles, fan analyses, and Pixar retrospectives to illustrate character evolution and studio response to audience feedback-particularly following the 2013 controversy over Merida’s initial redesign for the Disney Princess line.
