Rising Sun Flag - Historical Symbol of the Imperial Japanese Navy #1982988 (License: Personal Use)

This image displays the Kyokujitsu-ki (Rising Sun Flag), specifically the variant used by the Imperial Japanese Navy from 1889 to 1945, distinguished by its 16 red rays and central white stylized cross (a simplified version of the Imperial Seal). The design combines Shinto symbolism of the sun goddess Amaterasu with militaristic authority, and remains a potent historical and political icon in East Asia. Though still used by Japan’s modern Maritime Self-Defense Force, it evokes strong regional sensitivities due to its wartime associations.

Used in historical military archives, educational content on WWII Pacific theater, museum exhibits, and discussions on national symbols and wartime legacy; matches user intent for research, academic study, or understanding geopolitical symbolism.
